まるで羽毛のようなパウダースノー

地元富良野で生まれ育ち、4歳からスキーを始めました。

小学生の頃はスキー少年団に入り、20歳までレースを続け技術戦に転向、35歳でデモンストレーターを引退しました。

その後ミズノに入社、スキー関連の仕事に携わり、50歳を超えて富良野に帰ってきました。

今は、富良野のまちなかで「BARISTART COFFEE FURANO」というカフェを運営しています。

富良野を離れ国内、海外と多くのスキー場を見てきましたが、富良野スキー場はまちから近く雪質もよく、上手くなった気がする（笑）上手に滑ることができるスキー場です。

低い気温により雪が締まり、エッジのかけやすい雪質でとても滑りやすいことが特徴です。

また、ガイドをしていた時にお客さまがおっしゃった「僕、雪持っていますよね？羽毛みたいに重さを感じません！」という言葉がとても印象に残っています。

そのくらいここのパウダースノーは軽いですね。

 富良野のまちには、昔住んでいた頃には感じなかった田舎の良さを今、感じています。

小さい頃にあった建物が無くなり風景も変わってきていますが、時代と共に変化するのは仕方がないこと。

スキー場のルールなど守るべきところは守り、長く良い状況を保つためにも良い変わり方をしていくのが理想だなと考えています。この寒さがある限り、良い雪も良いまちも良い人も残っていくと思いますし、大事にしていきたいです。

今、富良野の「bonchi powder」にライダーとして関わる中で、ふわサラ度予測をもっと海外の方にも利用してもらいたいと思うと同時に、地元の方にも見ていただき「今日は雪軽いからいいね」と、雪はねのタイミングを見計らう参考にもしてもらえると嬉しいです。

A Powder Snow as Soft as Feathers

I was born and raised in Furano, and I started skiing when I was four years old. As an elementary school student, I joined a ski club and continued racing until I was 20, after which I transitioned to technical skiing. I retired as a demonstrator at the age of 35. After that, I joined Mizuno, working in the ski industry, and returned to Furano after turning 50. Now, I run a café called "BARISTART COFFEE FURANO" in the heart of Furano.Having left Furano and seen many ski resorts both in Japan and abroad, I can confidently say that Furano Ski Resort stands out for its proximity to the town and its excellent snow quality. It's a place where you feel like you’re getting better at skiing—it's that easy to ski well here! The cold temperatures cause the snow to pack down, creating a snow quality that's easy to edge on and very smooth to ski. I vividly remember a comment from a customer during my time as a ski guide: "I’m holding snow, right? It’s so light, it feels like feathers!" That’s how light the powder snow here is.Now that I’m back in Furano, I’m appreciating the charms of rural life that I didn’t notice when I lived here before. While some buildings from my childhood have disappeared and the landscape has changed, change is inevitable as time progresses. I believe that maintaining what’s important, like the rules of the ski resort, while also adapting positively to change, is the ideal way to preserve the good conditions for a long time. As long as this cold weather continues, I believe the good snow, the good town, and the good people will remain, and I want to cherish that.Currently, as I’m involved with Furano’s "bonchi powder" as a rider, I hope that the quantification of the Fluffy-Dry Index will be used more by people overseas. At the same time, I’d love for the locals to take a look at it and use it as a reference to say, "The snow is light today, so it's a good day!" and to plan their snow shoveling accordingly.
